Hip Carry

6 Months and Older

As your baby grows, you will start to carry her on your hip. when you begin to do this, you can also start using the hip carry. I have used the Maya Wrap to demonstrate how to wear your baby in the hip carry, but the steps are the same no matter what brand of ring sling you are using.

Step 1. Put your sling on. :) First you should decide which shoulder you want the sling to rest upon. Grasp the front of the rings with that hand, making sure the tail is hanging down in front. For the purposes of this illustration, I have chosen to rest the sling on my left shoulder. Then slip the sling over your other arm and head, resting it on your desired shoulder. Make sure the rings are approximately on or just below your collar bone, and the tail is hanging down in front of you.

Step 2. Prepare your sling to hold your baby. First, pull the excess fabric from behind you around in front of you.

Step 3. Place your baby in the sling. Place your baby in the sling on your hip. Make sure the fabric reaches up near your toddler's knees and at least halfway up your toddler's back. You can pull the fabric all the way up to her shoulders, if you so desire.

Please don't let these instructions intimidate you. Once you get used to it, wearing your baby will be second nature. And putting your baby in the sling will take seconds!

Happy Slinging!
